Dental caries is a major public health problem that affects people of all ages around the world. Gain understanding of what is going on while caries evolve in the early stages is of fundamental importance to prevent and cure this disease. In this study, an advanced experimental tomographic technique is coupled with Finite Element Simulations of the enamel erosion process at the microscopic scale. Besides developing a new robust simulation framework, the research highlighted the role of the etching attack angle with respect to the orientation of microstructural features (rods) present in the tooth enamel.
