Postdoctoral/Associate Researcher in Computational Fracture Mechanics
Structural Integrity and MEchanical Design (SIMED) group is seeking a 17-month full-time Postdoctoral Researcher (or Associate Researcher, not holding a PhD) in Computational Fracture Mechanics. The successful applicant will work at the Polytechnic Engineering and Architecture Department (DPIA) of the University of Udine, under Dr Enrico Salvati’s supervision.
The project (CONCERTO) focuses on the development of novel ceramics (Ce-TZP) nanocomposites and coatings with outstanding strength and toughness. The researcher will be working within an exciting multi-disciplinary environment to develop advanced numerical techniques, based on the Phase-Field approach, for the modelling of crack propagation in heterogeneous materials (polycrystalline, composites, etc.). The successful applicant will closely collaborate with top Italian Universities (Politecnico di Torino, Università Roma Tré, Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia and Università di Torino) which will provide experimental support for the validation of the developed models.
Although not mandatory, the candidates should possess a doctorate in a relevant field with experience in fracture mechanics, FEM modelling (Phase-Field, XFEM, CZM), computational tools, probabilistic approaches and demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques. Strong interpersonal skills are required alongside the ability to work on a collaborative project.
Annual leave and medical benefits will be offered
Appointment start date: no later than 30th May 2023.
The call deadline is 15th March 2023 – 2pm (CET).
